Dory Previn - Music

Most people think of Dory Previn as a singer-songwriter who recorded six albums in the early seventies :-

  • Mythical Kings and Iguanas
  • On My Way to Where
  • Reflections in a Mud Puddle
  • Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign
  • Dory Previn
  • We're Children of Coincidence and Harpo Marx

They were not insignificant in terms of sales either in that four of these albums are just outside the top two hundred sellers of all time.

But there was a lot more to Dory's music than these albums, in that she was a successful lyricist for motion picture theme songs during the 1960s and early 1970s, earning three Academy Award nominations for best song :-

  • 1960 - Faraway Part of Town from Pepe
  • 1962 - Second Chance from Two For the Seesaw
  • 1969 - Come Saturday Morning from The Sterile Cuckoo

Dory also composed songs for Inside Daisy Clover, Harper, Valley of the Dolls and Daddy's Gone a Hunting.

She is still active after a long career and has just released Planet Blue; a free download which is a protest against the war in Iraq.
