Tomorrow's World

Text messages sent by e-mail are one of the neglected methods that should be embraced by any company or organisation.

Take the case of the service engineer in his van driving round the country servicing computers, photo-copiers or washing machines. Is it right that someone phones him regularly to give him instructions as to their next call, when if you could send him a text message with full information?

Or the solicitor who has a difficult client, who needs to be told when and where they have to appear at court. Would a text message be sensible way of contacting the client?

Liquid Drop is a system that enables text messages to be sent from any e-mail program to any mobile phone. There are other systems, but Liquid Drop is simple to use and has some very interesting features :-

  • Because messages are composed in an e-mail program, virtually anything can be typed and they can be as long as necessary. 756 characters if you want!

  • Every time a text message is received then Liquid Drop can send you a confirmation e-mail. In the last resort, when people refuse to return your messages, you do know they have received them and can try a direct phone call.

  • But the major advantage is that any replies are delivered directly to the Inbox of your e-mail system.

I have used Liquid Drop for about three years now and have found it invaluable, for communicating with children, asking quick questions of clients and also for tracking down people I must contact urgently at awkward times.

This type of software is also useful for distributing messages to staff in the best way.

We've all been in the situation, where we get the office rumour second-hand and it causes hurt and distress. So why not send out your important communications to everyone's mobile phone?

Software is becoming available which distributes messages to all employees as both a text message and an e-mail. These are then placed automatically on the company's Intranet so that no-one is missed out of details of the latest success or problem.

Remember that a text message is much less intrusive than a phone call. It also costs a lot less!
