All single Faxes are sent from this dialog, which is called from the Send Fax button in the main Edit, Print Use Dialog.

Can I Change a Fax to an E-Mail or a Letter?

See Sending E-Mails or Writing Letters for more details.

All messages have an interchangeable format. Just set the appropriate option in the Type frame.

How Do I Change the Fax Format?

You can do this from the Fax Format command in the Options menu or using the Format button on the Send Fax dialog shown above. The Fax Format dialog will be shown.

Fax Format

Set the Fonts, Format, the Page Number Format and what type of Compression is to be used.

The three command buttons are used to set the Letterhead, Signature and Margins.

How Do I Change the Fax Letterhead?

Set the Letterhead using the Letterhead button in the Fax Format dialog.

Fax Letterhead

Letterheads are built from a series of elements defined in this dialog.

The best way to find out what you can do here, is to experiment!

Use View to check what you have defined and Print to print it.

See Example Letterheads for more details.

How Do I Change the Fax Margins?

Set the Margins using the Margins button in the Fax Format dialog.

Fax Margins

In this example the Margins are in millimetres. You can change these to inches using the Measurement command in the Options menu.

How Do I Change the Fax Signature?

Fax Signature

You can enter as much or as little signature, as you like.

How Do I Check the Fax has been Delivered?

FaxWise provides a program called Log Viewer, which checks on the status of all Faxes sent to the server.

Start the Log Viewer from the Start Program Menu.

Start Program Menu

The program shows all Faxes as a simple list.

How Do I Fit a Fax on One Page?

Note the Test Pages button at the bottom of the Fax Dialog.

Click this button and AddressWise will display the size of the Fax below the Test Pages button.

There are two ways of reducing the number of pages if required. (Although, it can't be guaranteed they will actually do it, as much as you require!)

1. Reduce the font size for the body of the Fax using the - button in the Font Size frame.

2. Increase the level of Compression.

Note that until you are fully familiar with AddressWise, it is a good idea to Print the Fax.

How Do I Print a Fax?

Just click the Print button and it will be printed on the printer shown in the bottom left of the dialog.

How Do I Send a Fax?

Just click the Fax button and it will be faxed and stored in the Messages Database.

The sequence is shown in detail in the section on Delivering Faxes.

Note that if you are printing Faxes, rather than using FaxWise, then the Fax will be printed on the printer shown in the bottom left of the dialog.

How Do Revisions Work?

Every time you send an Fax, the revision number increases.

All are stored in the Previous Messages database and they can be reviewed and printed as necessary.

See Reviewing Previous Messages for more details.

How Does Compression Work?

When you need to fit a Fax into a given number of pages, Compression is a very valuable tool.

There are three levels of compression.

After setting a new level of Compression, use Test Pages to see how many pages will be printed.

How Is a Fax Delivered with FaxWise?

Suppose you have entered the Subject and Message and have clicked the Fax button to send the document with FaxWise.

As FaxWise uses the Internet to deliver Faxes, AddressWise first checks that you have a valid connection. If you do not, AddressWise asks if you want to connect.

Connect Check

Either connect in your normal way and then click No or click Yes to ask AddressWise to connect for you.

Answering Yes brings up the connection dialog.

Connection Management

In the dialog Pipex Dial 5.0 has been selected.

Click Connect to connect to the Internet. After a successful connection, the dialog will be automatically closed.

The control screen for FaxWise will now be displayed.

FaxWise Control

Click Search Phone Book to bring up the FaxWise Phone Book that contains the Name and Fax Number of the recipient.

FaxWise Phone Book

Select the recipient and then click Add to List to move them from the Contacts to the Distribution List. Once the Distribution List is correct, click Done.

The Name and Fax Number have now appeared in the FaxWise control screen.

FaxWise Control

Finally click Send to deliver the Fax

Whilst the Fax is being delivered the following message will be shown on the screen, normally in the bottom left.

Send in Action

When this message closes and disappears, the Fax has been delivered to the FaxWise server via the Internet.

What is a Fax Signature?

Some people like to put a simple message at the bottom of their Faxes containing such details as their Fax number, company, product details and even a mini-biography!

This is a signature.
